The first of five planned T4H training workshops took place in the ancient city of Babylon from the 12th to the 16th of March. Ten trainees learned how to capture data on site using photogrammetry, followed by creating the 3D models. During the workshop trainees collected data from the site of the city of Babylon and also on the site of Borsippa, whose ziggurat has until recently been mistaken for the Tower of Babel.
The workshop was a great success according to Tiago Silva, 3D trainer, who was very much impressed by his trainees: “Never before have I felt such a thirst for learning, such a need to take action to digitise heritage”.
Trainees from Babylon will continue to collect data and share their 3D models from their region.
Training took place in the museum of Nassiriyah. Field session took place in Ur, ancient capital of Mesopotamia, where there is the Great Ziggurat of Ur and the Royal cemetery.
Training in Mosul took place in the University of archeology of Mosul. Most exercises were made on random objects. Field session took place in Bab Maska, one of the doors of the Antique city of Ninivae.
During our workshops on the site of the ancient city of Babylon, trainees worked on parts of the processional way monuments and pavement bricks. Field session took place in Borsippa.
